I bought this quite recently as I was looking to start using my two monitors with my laptop. I was originally going to use a USB C dock with my laptop until I found out that my laptop only had USB C Gen 1, which is for data use only. This meant I needed to look into alternatives for setting up my triple screen, my research led me to the DisplayLink line of peripherals.
I bought this back in May 2023, as a workaround as my laptop doesn’t use the USB C port for display out. This dock uses the DisplayLink protocol to connect to your laptop over USB 3.0 and it is perfect if you are wanting your laptop to connect to a range of different peripherals without having to keep plugging in and unplugging each time you need to take your laptop with you.

The dock has many useful ports that are still relevant today, 2x 3.0 USB A ports, 4x USB A ports (I think they are 2.0 or 2.1), HDMI, DVI, Ethernet, separate headphone and Microphone 3.5 jacks and Kensington lock. It’s powered by a PS2-looking 5 volts DC jack, but it has enough power to charge any USB devices that you plug into it.

Before I bought this, whenever I plugged in all my USB devices, I would get an alert that I had run out of lanes for my USB controllers and had to decide what I needed and didn’t need to use. This is due to the Laptop CPU I chose (review coming soon), but the dock makes this work, which I can’t complain about.
I have this located on top of the feet of my laptop stand, which means that it takes us the same footprint as my laptop and Laptop Stand (review coming soon), which isn’t very much as my desk isn’t very big for a gaming desk, but you could use it as a laptop riser as it is sloped in a way that could allow you to still type on your laptop keyboard if you wanted to.

The build feel is what you expect for a Dell product and compared to USB C docks that do the same task, I would recommend this type of product however these styles of docks do cost a lot more, this cost me £43.64 at the time of writing this.
I would recommend getting this if your laptop doesn’t support video out via the USB C port like mine. However, if you can use the USB C port for everything then I would recommend you use something else as this doesn’t support Power Delivery over the USB port.
